16-Year-Old Chloe Chambers Breaks Guinness World Record for Fastest Slalom

Can you remember what you were up to at the ripe young age of 16? Maybe you were saving up for your first car, or perhaps you were getting ready to take your driver’s license test. Either way, the chances are you weren’t behind the wheel of a Porsche 718 Spyder setting the Guinness World Record for the fastest vehicle slalom ever in a production car. That’s because you aren’t teenager Chloe Chambers.

On August 21 Chambers piloted a 718 Spyder down a slalom course in just 47.45 seconds. The car itself was completely stock, but with one of the best driver mods of all time. Chambers has been racing for seven years and competes in a number of karting series. In 2019 she took first place in the GearUp F-Series and in 2018 she took home the crown in the OVRP Club Championship. Clearly she’s got a knack for grip and go.

The slalom consists of 51 cones equally spaced at 50-foot intervals, and even though the 718 is small, it’s nothing like as tiny and lithe as a go kart. That meant Chambers had to adapt to her new machinery in a hurry, but she was clearly up to the task. At the end of the day Chambers said she found the grip she needed and that everything came together perfectly.

“It looks easy, but it’s really not—to weave between 50 cones as fast as possible, trying to beat a record time and knowing I couldn’t touch a single one for the run to count. I definitely felt the pressure,” Chambers said.

The 47.45-second time beats a record that was set in China in 2018. Maybe Porsche will be able to set it again in the new GT3 when it finally comes out.
