It looks like the sweetest Ford Mustang just got a little sweeter for 2021. For the new model year, the Blue Oval revealed a new Carbon Fiber Handling package for the top-dog 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, incorporating a suite of track-focused goodies for those that don’t want to make the full jump to the pricey Carbon Fiber Track Pack.
The new option group, therefore, sits between the existing $1,500 Handling package and the $18,500 Carbon Fiber Track Pack both in price and in equipment. For $10,000, Ford will fit your 2021 GT500 with black-painted 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, adjustable strut top mounts, oil catch can, Gurney flap, and front splitter wickers.
The latter Gurney flap and splitter wickers make up the entirety of the existing $1,500 Handling package, but the in-between option group excludes the Carbon Fiber Track Pack’s exposed carbon fiber finish on the wheels, large rear wing, Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 tires, and requisite interior trim. A quick note on the regular Handling package—for 2021, that $1,500 kit now includes the adjustable strut top mounts launched with the Carbon Fiber Handling package.
You’ll also have a handful of new colors to pick from. For 2021, Grabber Yellow, Antimatter Blue, and Carbonized Gray are made available on the Mustang EcoBoost, GT, and GT500. This also means a few paint codes leave the order form, so we hope you weren’t aiming for your new ‘Stang in Grabber Lime, Kona Blue, Magnetic Gray, or Wimbledon White.
Other than that, it’s the same 180-mph Detroit Destroyer we love so much, meaning that rootin’ tootin’ 5.2-liter supercharged Predator V-8 still spins out an unchanged 760 hp and 625 lb-ft. If you’re hoping for a manual transmission, keep dreaming—Ford’s TR-9070 seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is still the only option.
